Its Been Awhile.. Sailing Log Sept 7

There have been a lot of changes in the last month keeping us away from blogging, but now its time to catch up!
Date: Sept 7
Sydney - Halifax.
Distance: 256nm
Time: 47hrs
Motoring: 4hrs
We departed late afternoon and as soon as we were in more open waters within the harbour, we hoisted our sails. We were on a beam reach and broad reach most of the way till we past Louisbourg. From that point on the winds shifted from NE to NW which meant we were sailing 60 degrees to the wind. The winds also picked up considerably. Both of which were not forecasted. We ended up putting 3 reefs in the main and sailing with the staysail as the apparent wind increased to 35 knots. It was a difficult passage with some slamming (reducing our canvas slowed us down considerably and thus minimized our slamming) and Christine getting sea sick for 12 hours.
The winds and waves died down significantly once we passed Canso. We still sailed at 60 degrees to the wind all the way to Halifax.
Arrived in Halifax in the later part of the afternoon and set our anchor with relative ease and settled in for a much deserved captains hour.
