Port aux Basques to Rose Blanche

Left PAB at around noon. Winds were light. We got out of the harbour and partially raised the main sail and set out the genoa. We decided to try to sail with justly the genoa and furled in the main while on a broad reach with the boom at 45 degrees. Instruction are to make the halyard tight and bring it in slowly. We were 90% done when the breaker tripped. Winds continued to pick up throughout the trip maxing out at 22 knots. Our SOG was consistently 6 to 7.5 knots using only the headsail. Swells were consistently from the south west as were the winds.

When the halyard winch cooled down we decided to bring in the rest of the main sail, it was just finishing when the furling line came lose from the mandrel with a very loud bang. Come to find out later the sheathing milked itself from the core. An easy fix for when we are docked.

Arrived in Rose Blanche around 3ish and docked with the help of Les. Later Bert arrived and docked ahead of us. Spent the evening drinking beer and fishing with Les. Caught 2 mackerel, hopefully the first of many.
