Canso to Port Hawkesbury

Distance: 22.7nm

Time: 9am - 14hrs

Motoring: 3.5hrs

Winds were looking favorable for our transit to Port Hawkesbury today. Weather models showing good winds with maybe an exception as we get into the channel. We've booked a diver to look at the boat tonight. Hoping its only the anode thats broken.

As we left Canso, we were yet again surrounded by lobster traps. Thankfully Christine was on the bow directing us and made for an easy getaway to deeper waters. We sailed northeast on a broad reach and made good time. As we approached the channel you could see ahead the water was flat, meaning no wind. As we got closer the winds died down to 3 knots, then zero, and we ended up motoring the rest of the way.

Once we got to Port Hawkesbury we drove around to see what our best approach to the dock would be. Got docked and a few hours later Lennan, our diver, showed up with his brother Dean. Donned his dry diving suit and a few minutes later came up and advised that the anode was pooched as well as the Spurs line cutter. Not sure which one damaged which, either way, both needed to be removed and replaced. Luckily the folks at Strait Supplies were able to provide us with the parts we needed.

24hrs later we had new cone anode for the propeller, shaft anode and got a new line cutter, a Piranah line cutter. Looks like 2 saw blades, extremely sharp and expensive.

Parts bought and installed and the setup is good as new. Spent 3 days there. Met some wonderful people and the day we were leaving we saw the RCMP tactical response team commandeered a sailboat and brought her into port. There was about 7 officers. They tore the boat apart and had a remote control dive camera go under the boat as well. So much going on before our departure.
