Sailing Log June 24, 2026

Souris, PEI to Havre Aubert, QC
Souris - Havre-Aubert
Distance: 74.5nm
Time: 13.5hrs
Motoring: 3hrs
It was decided to leave at 1700hrs as the passage would take about 16hrs to complete. Forecasted winds were 10 knots with average speed of 4 knots with following seas and fog.
Raising our anchor in close to 20 knots of winds should have been a sign of things to come!
We decided to follow the ferry route as it would lead to no lobster traps. Wrong!
We were met with a minefield of lobster traps on our way out to open waters from Souris. Christine was on the bow as look out. The scheduled ferry route on the chartplotter was not as expected. We were free from traps once we were about 3nm from land.
As we made our way around the tip of PEI, and not far off the ferry route, we were met with another minefield of traps. 30 minutes later we were clear of them.
The rest of the way to the Ilse de la Madeleine was met with winds gusting to 18 knots and waves on beam and slightly forward. PredictWind was wrong, again.
Our watch schedule was for Christine to be on from 8pm to 1am and mine from 1am to 6am. As the seas and winds demanded more sail trim, we ended up spilling into each other watches.
When I did take over Christine's watch, our expected landfall was now scheduled 3 hours earlier. Which meant arriving before sunrise. And its never a good idea to arrive in an unknown port in the dark. We slowed the boat down from 6.5 knots to 3.5 knots.
We arrived and dropped anchor at 8:15am in winds of 15 knots and 12 feet of water, with a lovely view of the beach. Nobody here but us.
Our AIS stopped working or was glitchy. Need to find out what's wrong - maybe the extra pounding loosened something?
Its now 3 hrs since we arrived and there are 2 more sailboats that have anchored in the same bay. To bad we never got our golf range finder. Amazon delivery person tried delivering to the wrong address last Friday and delivered it yesterday. Even after we canceled the order.

Beautiful beach! No tourists!
